Judd (Jay)'s Story

Life I graduated in 1974 and afterward went into the Air Force for boot camp at Lackland A.F.B. in San Antonio. Upon completion of advanced training I was stationed at assignments North Dakota, Alaska, twice in Florida, Georgia, and Korea, temporary assignments in the Middle East California and Alaska and fought in Operation Desert Storm and retired from the Air Force in June of 1994. For a seven year period from 1984 till 1991 I was married and we had a daughter, Jessica who today is grown and unfortunately our marriage disintegrated after I returned home from Desert Storm but I learned very quickly to pick up the pieces and move on. After I retired from the Air Force I landed a job for a transportation company in Atlanta where I worked for almost a year and then was transferred to Denver where today I call Colorado home. In 2000 I graduated from the Community College of Denver with a certification in Environmental Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology. Today I work for the State of Colorado in the Facilities Department at the Auraria Higher Education Center Campus in downtown Denver. I like to golf, snow ski, snowshoeing, and mountainbike. I commute daily to and from work by bicycle except very cold mornings or after a new fallen snow about 30 miles round trip a day. Some of my hobbies are model railroading, home improvement, and planning a Europeaan travel adventure for in the future, and I travel by train whenever possible to visit my Mother on the East Coast or my brother on the West Coast. One of my passions is riding the bike in charitable events to raise money for charity. I have ridden in events starting in 2000 for events such such as the annual Colorado MS 150 and Register's Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) in he name of raising money for charitable events. I also a few times a year ride a long with state and local law enforcement as a citizen observer mainly in traffic and DUI since several of my friends are cops. in region that I am living my dream that took over 20 years to accomplish. Couldn't be happier. School I guess Mr Joe Tapal was inspirational, he was straight forward, honest and sometimes even brash, but he would let you know where you stood with him. The craziest teacher I would nominate Mr. Quaidy for the things he did and said and then let's not forget Miss Katz who would always slam President Nixon every morning in class. I made the mistake to challenge her one day and she really put me in my place making me feel 6 inches tall after she lashed out at me telling me, "Judd, people like you worry me." Military I started basic training on Aug 1,1974 at Lackland A.F.B. in San Antonio for initial and later training as a security specialist. The first duty assignment I found myself at Grand Forks A.F.B. North Dakota where I served from Nov 74 till Sept 76. Afterward I was reassigned to Eielson A.F.B. near Fairbanks, Alaska from Nov 76 till Mar 78. When departing Fairbanks I made the 1,500 mile drive down the Alaska Highway (Alcan Hwy) through Canada down to Florida via California to visit my brother. From there it was off to Eglin A.F.B. east of Pensacola, Florida where I spent a lovely 4 years there 1978 to 1982. After that then to Osan Air Base, Korea for a year where during that time I toured the heavily fortified border at Panmujum where you can actually stand on the demarcation line the border between the two Koreas. In April 1983 I was returned stateside this time at Tyndall A.F.B. near Panama City, Fla where I met my wife who was also stationed there. About three years after our daughter Jessica was born in early 1986. In early 1987 I was then reassigned to Moody A.F.B. near Valdosta, GA and in 1990 I shipped off to fight in Operation Desert Shield/Storm. Shortly after my return home our marriage ended. Finally June 1994 I retired from the United States Air Force at the rank of Technical Sergeant. During my career I left footprints in a lot of places and took a lot of good memories with me.
